Ben Calvert
is a singer/songwriter who self-releases songs through the record label Bohemian Jukebox. Ben’s training in Theatre at Dartington College of Arts has equipped him with excellent skills in inter-disciplinary arts collaboration to make inventive and engaging video work. He’s also worked as an actor on BBC TV productions.

The Creatures of Simplicity (2011)
Using the song’s theme of a woodland murder, illustrator Louise Wright’s specially commissioned playing cards and Matt’s Watkins (Beat13/Gorillaz) animation skills, the video earned a place on the front page of YouTube. In the week of it’s release it was being viewed 1,000 times a day.

Ben has collaborated with Director of Photography Paul Ullah on the videos to two of his singles:

Valpolicella Girl (2012)
This video used the concept of an afternoon picnic. Shot in an afternoon, the video was featured on NME.com and Nuts.com and was syndicated on the Scottish Newspaper Websites of Trinity Mirror. The video lead to reviews, interviews and National and local FM radio and internet radio play.

The Sea, The Sea (2014)
This work drew on the Gothic styling of the film Nosferatu and aspects of The Blair Witch Project. The video was premièred on the front page of Muzu.tv alongside videos from The Who, Nirvana and Selena Gomez. The video was also featured on MSN News. Within two hours of the song being uploaded it was playlisted for BBC Radio.
